New Silent Hill Homecoming Commentary

Posted by Valtiel On August - 15 - 2008

Here’s a commentary video from ComicCon where horror website Dreadcentral.com got a chance to play Silent Hill Homecoming on an Xbox 360 build. So what does this video reveal? During the game, we will get to explore part of Shepard’s Glen and the town of Silent Hill itself. In the video clip, we watch as Alex plays through the first portion of the game - the hospital - and comes up against a variety of clever puzzles, familiar monsters, and highly detailed cinematics. The combat looks amazing. When Alex cuts the nurse, actual slash marks appear on the character model for realtime damage effects.

The game will also feature incredibly detaled “otherworld” transistions. The first one in the game will be purely cinematic and intense, but the rest will all be played out in real time. Very cool. I can’t wait to see this with my own eyes!

During gameplay, you’ll also get to discover notes left by previous characters in the Silent Hill universe. Another nice touch. Only about a month and a half until the game’s release! September 30th will be here before you know it. If you haven’t preordered your copy of Silent Hill Homecoming yet, you can preorder right now directly from Amazon.com using the handy links below:

  1. RĂ´mulo Melkor Mancin Said,

    “This toilet smells like death”

Sorry, that wasn’t a deep comment, better luck next time.

  2. Joman Said,

Okay, here’s what’s wrong with this video.

“We’ve removed the static camera angles to allow you to explore your environments to further detail.”
-Well, What made the camera angles, lighting and overall visuals of the previous games disturbing is that you couldn’t make out every detail. Things were obtuse, inexplicable and indistinguishable, leaving your imagination to fill in the blanks. If you can see and understand everything, the fear factor is gone.

“We’ve improved the flashlight, to better allow you to ’shed light’ on things.”
-For fuck’s sake. The whole point of Silent Hill is to not be able to see what is lurking in the shadows, or where the hallway ends, or what abominations of God are hunting you down and attacking you.

And the “toilet smells like death” comment was, indeed, retarded.

Someone really needs to slap these guys in the face and make them stop fucking up Silent Hill and making themselves look like idiots.

I would just have so much more peace of mind if these guys didn’t seem like a bunch of average frat boys getting together, drinking a bunch of beers and being like, “Dude… let’s make a scary game. Why do people like Silent Hill? Well, let’s watch the movie and study the games and try to figure it out, through the perspective of someone who has never experienced any real suffering and really doesn’t get affected by the previous games like someone who is developing the next game in the series SHOULD be.”

God, this shit is driving me CRAZY!

  3. Ugi Said,

Its looking good, I just hope it lives up to all the other games in the series I fell in love with. Can’t wait to see the transition in real time, and on a next gen console. gonna be sweet.
