Does anybody know if this has been confirmed yet? I am seeing a lot of rumors about it, but not sure. If they do make a second movie, it better be a helluva lot better than the first.

Saw this in Wikipedia -

Quote
The current synopsis on IMDB states that the film's plot will follow Silent Hill 2, with Chris searching for Rose after 3 years and encountering a young girl named Laura.

Do you think they should even make a second movie? The first one upset a lot of fans.

I'd love for them to make a second movie...though the fans have to remember, there isn't enough of us die-hards alone to warrant them making a movie just for us, let alone a sequel, so they have to attune the movie so that people who have no idea what-so-ever about Silent Hill aren't left in the dark about what's going on.

None-the-less, I can't wait for a possible sequel...I've always thought David Lynch would go well as a director for it.

Silent Hill 2 movie confirmed

There are a slew of film adaptations of video games in production right now, Hitman, Alice, and Postal, for example. Now, according to director Christophe Gans, Silent Hill 2 can be added to that list.

Gans, the Antibes-born director of the first Silent Hill movie, has revealed that a second SH film is on the way and that it will correct the mistakes of the first.

The original Silent Hill, released on April 21, 2006, told the story of Rose Da Silva, a mother who sets out to find a town called Silent Hill, which her daughter Sharon calls to in her sleep.

Gans confirmed in an interview with French magazine DVDrama that "there will indeed be a Silent Hill 2 and it is officially ordered and is already well underway. Once he has finished his adaptation of Driver, Roger Avary will be [working on the script], helped by his friend Neil Gaiman."

Roger Avary is a Canadian-born director, producer, and writer. He has previously worked on the screenplays for the first Silent Hill and Killing Zoe and won an Oscar for his work on Pulp Fiction.

British author Neil Gaiman is most famous for his series of Sandman graphic novels and has also worked on screenplays for the TV series of his novel Neverwhere, as well as Mirrormask and Princess Mononoke.

However, Gaiman's actual contribution is now under some doubt, after a post on his own blog stated, "Yesterday I discovered pretty much all of my FAQ messages were people asking whether I was really going to be writing the Silent Hill sequel with Roger Avary. I'm afraid that I don't think I am--I mean, it's the first thing I've ever heard of it, and I'm sure that if they make a sequel Roger would want to write it himself."

Gans' original statement has since been retranslated, so until there is clarification from Gans or Gaiman, some mystery still shrouds the title's development.

Gans added that he may not have time to take on the project himself, due to his commitments on the adaptation of another video game project, Onimusha.

When asked who he would like to see direct if he were unable to, Gans told DVDrama that, "If I cannot take on Silent Hill 2 myself, the director who does would need to continue in the same style as the first film. One does not want to make a Hollywood-style movie, and I think that it makes sense if the director of the sequel is European--in the best case scenario, French."

He also revealed that he was planning a special two-disc collector's-edition DVD of the original Silent Hill, but that would be a long time coming, possibly not for two and a half to three years, and that he intends to start work on it only after finishing up Onimusha.  Grin

SYNOPSIS

It is said that the sequel to Silent Hill 2 will be based around the plot of Silent Hill 2 the game. It's been three years since Rose Da Silva [Radha Mitchell] and daughter Sharon Da Silva [Jodelle Ferland] have been missing, after many numerous investigations, Christopher [Sean Bean] has finally set out to once again, look for his daughter and wife, this time without the help of Detective Thomas Gucci [Kim Coats]. Soon Chris finds himself stuck in the nightmarish world of Silent Hill, along the way he meets new and interesting characters, one being Jacob Burn [Taraye Casdorph] a young teen, and Laura a young girl who had arrived in the town with Jacob. Both claim to have no recollection of how they really came to this hell. There is also a rumor that Maria will be adapted into the game. Konami has refused to verify the plot of Silent Hill 2 considering it's slow development. However it was said that some elements from the second game will be adapted into the live action sequel.  _ IMDB

For some reason I was under the impression that Gans bailed on the project, thus making Avery want to back out as well...

I had heard this too, from imdb.com I believe.  It had Avery stating that if Gans wasn't returning to direct, then he had no interest writing for the movie, as he believed Gans was the only person who could take what was written and put it into a visual form the way it was meant to be.

I think they should make a second one to redeem themselves from the first one. I have to admit the sfx were good but the plot didn't really appeal to me. I still love Silent Hill. In fact I am having some trouble trying to beat Silent Hill 4 and i would like to before i get SHH. I am at the part where I am getting the pieces of the doll and Eileen is with me. I ran into the dude that I gave the chocolate milk to. He's on fire and following me everywhere! i have no candles and don't really know what to do about that...I dont have a sword thing either...to pin his a%% down.

lol. Games make me crazy!

game on my friends game on!

I like the ideas they're using, trying to merge the plots of Silent Hill 1 and 2. I can see how it could potentially be great if executed well. Hopefully it is.

@gamegirl-That part is sucks! Good luck Grin.

Abso-fucking-lutely NOT!! Silent Hill the Movie, while standing alone as a decent horror movie, KILLS the story of the games. I hate you Hollywood!

In order for SiluntHeel2 (I think I will refer to this movie this way from now on) to work they will have to take a sledgehammer to all the stupid they did in Silent Hill. If its a continuation of the plot of the first one, they really can't fix anything. When your foundation is bad building more on top of it is not going to yield good results.

For me to consider watching it in theaters (I will netflix it out of some sort of perverted desire for it not to suck) they would have to establish an entirely different mythos for Silent Hill, something much more along the lines of the game.
1) It's snow. None of this miner town bullshit.
2) The rape angle was stupid. We didn't need an excuse to hate a cult driven on bringing about a Dark God into our world. Isn't being an evil cult bringing about a Dark God make a little more sense as to why this girl has dark powers as well? Instead of this, oh, we had to do this ritual to save her raped soul dinkery.
3) Pyramid Head was a punisher. He had no reason to be in the film other than to give a hand job in a dark alley to fans. Unfortunately, since this was the only thing to be enjoyed for the most part in the film.
4) The Father-Daughter relationship is less explored in media and I think it would have been far more interesting for the movie to have been like the original in this sense. I guess a guy would have lacked sex appeal hollywood? You had the nurses (again for no apparent reason other than fan service) to cover that base didn't cha?

Obviously those are others but thankfully I have blocked out most of that movie. I am obviously ranty about this because out of all the horrid video game movies out there I was really hoping for the Silent Hill Movie to be THE ONE. Since it is a game that is more based on story telling and mood than most.

I read this on Wiki, I wonder how accurate it is.

On 14th September 2007, British television station ITV published the first details of the movie's plot on their forums. The plot will be a direct sequel to the first film (differing from the style used by the games in which sequels of one story arc generally appear every other game.) based on the story of Silent Hill 3.

'The second installment of the Silent Hill series leads journalist Brett Cartland into Portland, Maine to work on a documentary about the abandoned mining town of Silent Hill. He finds himself trapped inside of a closing shopping mall with a mysterious young woman named Kara. The exits are blocked and a series of odd noises from an unknown section of the mall lead to an unimaginable terror. Kara and Brett go deep into Silent Hill during the second act of the film in the search of her true identity. He quickly learns that there is more to her past than she is letting on.'
